So you came here to find out a little bit about me...
I have had an interest in photography since I was about 8 years old. At that time, I received my first camera, an old Brownie Hawkeye. I know… I'm dating myself.
A few years later, I had graduated to a pocket camera. You guessed it… it was made of metal, but it worked really well… for back in the day. Actually, only in the day. It didn’t do well with night photography, unless it was long exposure captures. I guess they hadn't invented the flash bulbs yet. Still, what a fun little camera!
Some time in the 70′s they came out with instant film camera’s and I got a Polaroid SX-70! How I loved that silly thing, but the film was so expensive(for my parents)! Regardless, my friends and I had more fun with that camera! The things you can capture when you don’t have to send the film out to be developed! “Now where did that photograph go?”
In the mid 70′s, I got a Minolta pocket camera and I just loved that little camera! I took 100′s, maybe 1000′s of images with it and even took it on a trip to Florida! It remained my favorite for several years. I still have it, but it’s been collecting dust for years, along with a few others.
Then, in 1977, I got a Minolta XG-7 SLR and that was it! I never looked back to a point and shoot for years! This was my baby and I had many toys for her! She’s still in my collection and will be, forever!
When the digital era arrived, I started out with a Olympus C5060 and it was an incredible camera! And then I broke it and while waiting for it to be repaired, I rented another model…
That was the Canon Powershop S5IS. I still have and use it, to this day! They have never made a more user friendly and durable little camera! It’s a workhorse and it’s my go-to camera for quick captures and videos of the grandkids and just about any party setting!
In 2011, I was gifted a Canon EOS 7D. It was a total game charger! I had entered the world of DSLR photography and I was hooked!
Today, I shoot primarily with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III and it too is a workhorse! I feel it serves me very well and that we are to be great friends for years to come! Who would have ever thought they could make a digital camera as good, or in many cases, even better than film! I love technology!
There is a photographer 'peeve' out there that goes something like this, "Your pictures are so nice! You must have a great camera!" To which the photographer replies, "Your food is so delicious! You must have a great stove!" Whenever I hear it, it just makes me shake my head. Of course you need the right tools for the job! I'm very thankful I have the right tools!
